SEO report template

The monthly SEO report template clients understand

A good client SEO report answers three questions: did more people find the business on Google, what did the agency do, and what happens next. Here's the structure we use, section by section.

The sections, in order

1. A summary in two or three sentences

What moved this month and why, in plain English. Most clients read this and little else, so lead with the result.

2. Visits from Google

Clicks, impressions and top searches from Search Console, compared with the month before, so the client sees the result in Google's own numbers.

3. Tracked keywords

The searches the client cares about, with their position and weekly trend.

4. SEO score and issues

A 0–100 score from a crawl of the whole site against 45+ checks, with what changed since last month.

5. Page speed

Core Web Vitals from real visitors on mobile, passing or failing, in Google's terms.

6. Work completed

Every task your team finished, each confirmed by the next crawl, so the report proves the work rather than just listing it.

7. Local results

Calls, direction requests and website clicks from Google Search and Maps, and new reviews.

8. Next month's plan

The few tasks you'll work on next, and why they matter, so the client knows what they're paying for.

Common mistakes

Too many charts

A page of graphs with no explanation leaves the client to guess whether it's good news.

No proof of work

If the report doesn't show what was done, clients start asking what they're paying for.

Arriving late

Reports sent by hand slip. A report on the same day each month builds trust.

Fill it in automatically

Digital Adept builds this report for every client from their Search Console data, a crawl of their site and your completed tasks, with your branding, and emails it on schedule.

Questions

How long should a client SEO report be?
Short enough to read in five minutes: a summary, a handful of numbers with the change from last month, the work done and the plan. Detail can go in an appendix or a share link.
Monthly or weekly?
Monthly suits most clients: SEO changes slowly, and weekly numbers move up and down for no real reason. Use weekly for launches or migrations.
